Is Wedding Videography Worth It?
So, you're planning your wedding, and you're wondering... is a wedding videographer actually worth the investment? It's a big decision, and honestly, there's no one-size-fits-all answer. So I’m going to do my best to break down some honest reasoning for you below, so you can make the decision that’s right for you!
The Benefits of Wedding Videography
Relive the emotions: Photos are fantastic, but a video captures the soul of your wedding. The sounds, the laughter, the tears, and the unique atmosphere of your day. You can hear your vows, the speeches, and relive those precious moments with your loved ones.
Remember the details: Even with the best of intentions, it's impossible to remember every single detail of your wedding day (trust me!). A video serves as a wonderful reminder of those fleeting moments. Every reaction you didn’t see on the day, the view your guests had of your beautiful ceremony area, your partner’s reaction to you walking down the aisle, these moments deserved to be remembered forever.
An immersive experience: Watching your wedding film can be incredibly moving. It's like reliving the day all over again, allowing you to truly immerse yourself in the emotions and memories. Something you can share with future generations, a day never to be forgotten.
Listen to the couples who have got married: People that have had their wedding days in recent years will be sure to have a lot of advice for you. Now, it’s important to find your own way when it comes to your wedding, not everything that worked for them works for you. But it’s also important to take note of an important and universal question like “What is the biggest wedding regret?”. To which the answer is almost always “Not feeling able to take everything in on the day as it happened” or “Not hiring a Wedding Videographer”. With a wedding video, you can relax and truly savour the moment, knowing that every precious detail is being captured for you. It will become an invaluable keepsake, transporting you back to that special day whenever you watch it. You'll relive every heartfelt exchange in stunning detail, creating memories that your family will cherish for years to come.
Wedding Videography FAQs
"Will I actually watch my wedding video?"
You might not watch it every day, but it's a priceless keepsake. It's something you can share with future generations, and it's a wonderful way to relive your special day on anniversaries. The day you receive your wedding video and get to watch it for the first time will be a truly special moment. Couples often watch it multiple times, crying and laughing their way though a beautifully crafted film, made for one of the most important and unique days of their lives.
"How do I choose a wedding videographer?"
Look for a videographer whose style resonates with you. Check out their portfolio, if their films make you feel emotional, and read reviews from past clients. It’s important that you choose someone not only that can create high quality work, but that cares about weddings and cares about the little details that make your wedding stand-out. Rather than a generic template, a wedding film should be a deeply personal and moving reflection of a couple's love, capturing the unique essence of their special day.
"What questions should I ask potential videographers?"
Ask about their experience, their filming style, what’s included in their packages, and their turnaround time. It’s important to know how they work, not only on the day, but what you should expect from them before and after. And if their view on what’s important about a wedding video fits with your own.
"How much does a wedding videographer cost?"
Prices vary greatly depending on the videographer's experience, the length of the videos, the amount of coverage, length of edits and the number of cameras used. You can expect to pay upwards of £1000 for a basic package that has coverage from ceremony to first dance and gives you a nicely edited 5 minute highlight of your day, including music and audio from the ceremony and speeches. If you’d prefer the whole day to be covered (including bridal prep), with a longer highlight edit to really get all the details of your day included, and have full separate video’s of the important moments such as speeches and ceremony, then you would be looking more at £1500+. When it comes to choosing a package, be sure to read the details of what each tier includes, and think carefully about what is important to you. The longer a highlight edit is, the more details and important moments will be included, I personally believe that to be one of the most important elements.
Ultimately, the decision of whether to hire a wedding videographer or not is a personal one. Cost can always be a factor in deciding, but make sure you’re confident about what it is you are putting your money towards. If you value capturing the memories and emotions of your special day, and you're willing to invest in this unique keepsake, then it's definitely something to consider.
